Top 10 Winter Clothing Essentials For A Cozy Style
1. Sweaters
My number 1 winter essential is a good quality sweater. They are practical, timeless, and can work for so many occasions. Wear it work with a trouser or a skirt, wear it on a weekend with jeans and sneakers, wear it on a date night with a pleated skirt and heels.. the options are endless. Here is a quick guide on finding a complementary sweater for your body type.
A Turtleneck sweater is my personal favorite, they give an impression of an elongated upper body and they’re practical to layer or wear by themselves if live in colder climates. V-neck sweaters look flattering on pear and apple shape body shape as it draws the attention upward and elongates your torse to create a more streamlined look. If you have a small bust, try a scoop neck or crew neck sweater for a more balanced appearance.
Keep it casual and cozy with an open cardigan. Layer it over a plaid button-up for a weekend look or pair a sweater/sweater dress underneath for an office look. I rounded up an assortment of my current favorite sweaters below.

2. Skinny Jeans or Leggings
I pretty much wear pants every day. My most preferred style of pants in winter are either skinny jeans or my Spanx faux leather legging or my mango maternity leggings at the moment.
The best thing about leggings or skinny jeans is that you can tuck them into your knee-high boots or over the knee boots plus they look chic with sweaters and a wool/puffer coat.
3. Sweater Dress
A sweater dress with knee-high or OTK boots is my favorite winter outfit. It’s practical, cozy, and extremely stylish. Pair it with tights and boots or booties for an elevated look. You can wear it to work, date night, holiday parties, or for lunch with the girls.
4. Good Quality Opaque Tights
Adding tights to your look is the ideal way to give it a little oomph while keeping your legs toasty and warm. I have been wearing Hipstik tights for closely 4 years (the same pair). They are comfortable, soft, durable, and don’t slide down. If you are looking for shaping tights, highly recommend Spanx.
5. Classic Wool Coat
A classic wool coat is a smart basic that you can throw on any outfit to look instantly chic. It can take you from desk to drinks, from grocery shopping to date nights, and anywhere in between. While the classic neutral wool coat in black, camel, or grey is a safe bet but don’t shy away from fun colors like red, green, or lavender esp during the Holiday season.
6. Puffer Coat
Puffer coat is the key staple when the temperature is in the negatives. Invest in a good one and you’ll have it for years to come. Puffer coats come in different varieties- short, long, lightweight, or heavy-duty. I personally love a medium length heavy-duty coat like the Patagonia jacket I am wearing. It’s extremely warm, well made and the brand is sustainable and fair trade.
7. Cozy Scarf
When it comes to scarves, I am a big fan of traditional scarves, they are functional, easy to style, and a fun way to add print or color to your outfit. Infinity scarves are even easier to style but I think they are outdated instead you can invest in fleece or faux velvet stole that is functional and also stylish.
8. Cozy Loungewear
While many of us continue to work from home during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we’re constantly searching for comfy clothes. Cozy loungewear and holiday-inspired pajamas are probably everyone’s favorite wardrobe staple at the moment.
9. Tall Boots
Whether it’s knee-high boots or over the knee boots, I find tall boots more practical and warmer in winter compare to ankle boots. They are also a fun way to transition your summer dresses to colder months.
If you live in a climate that gets much rain and snow, opt for leather boots or waterproof suede boots as they are much more versatile. I highly recommend Blondo boots, they are waterproof and extremely comfortable!
10. Snow Boots / Rain Boots
Snow boots are a must if you live in an area that gets lots of snow. Whether you are shoveling the driveway, walking an outdoor mall in the winter, or getting from your car to the office, you need shoes that are not slippery in ice and heavily insulated to keep feet warm for long periods of time. I love Sorel boots, they are practical, durable, and stylish.
