How to wear a printed pencil skirt in the Fall, styling tips featured by top US modest fashion blog, Dreaming Loud

I am not the person who believes in dressing for my body type to look flattering. For me flattering is more than just looking thin or tall, it’s about feeling confident, comfortable and myself in an outfit. My motto is the key to looking good in an outfit is to feel good in it.

I never restrict myself from wearing a particular garment just because they don’t suit my body type. You would never have seen me in wide-leg pants or satin skirts if that was the case. Instead, I focus on finding pieces that are well-tailored or “cut”. If the fit is good, the fabric is well made, any garment will look great on you if you wear it with confidence.

When Inherit co approached me about promoting their new modest printed pencil skirt,  part of me was excited because I’ve always loved pencil skirts and another part of me was hesitant. I’ve put on so much weight after my wedding and was doubtful about fitting into a pencil skirt. I, obviously, said yes because I don’t want to stop wearing something I like just because I gained weight. I simply sized up.

Here I am flaunting my curves in this beautiful floral printed pencil skirt that totally surprised me by its amazing quality. As someone who was born and bought up in India, my love for all things cotton is inevitable. This skirt took me back to those beautiful days when I used to buy fabric (mostly handlooms) and tailor all my clothes. Honestly, those were the most well-made and durable clothes I have worn in my life.

This skirt is made of similar quality. The material used is 55%  cotton and 45% nylon, very breathable and it’s completely lined. The lining provides ‘slipperiness’ which makes it easier to get the skirt on and keeps the fabric from rubbing against your skin and the seams from gradually coming open.

Add a Pop with Complimentary Colors

I paired the skirt with colors that compliment the skirt, colors that pair well with blue and teal yet stand out. I love purple against blue, it brightens the outfit without being overwhelming. I kept the rest of the neutral colors that complement each other like the ivory boots against the grey bag and baby pink against purple and navy.

2. Add Contrasting Color

Pair the printed skirt with a sweater or necklace or shoes in a contrasting color. The easiest way to keep the outfit trendy is by choosing seasonal colors. For fall, yellow, burgundy and camel are very much on-trend.

3. Keep your Printed Pencil Skirt Look Monochromatic

Monochromatic is the easiest way to put together. Pick the colors out of the pattern and match with the top, jacket and shoes/bag.

4. Pattern Play

I paired the skirt with a blouse that has a pattern with a little color in it. Then echoed the same shade in my shoes and accessories.

5. Keep your Printed Pencil Skirt Casual

You can swap the camisole for a white graphic tee for a more casual look. This is a no brainer outfit. A beige cardigan and a white camisole pretty much pair well with anything. I kept the whole look minimal by pairing with neutral shoes and bag.
