New-York-Fashion-Week (NYFW)-Recap-All-Things-Mochi-SS20-Collection-7

When I first saw All Things Mochi dresses on Rent the Runway, I admired how vibrant and lively they were. I waited to rent this dress all summer but it was never available in my size. So imagine my excitement when an invite to the All Things Mochi SS20 presentation popped up in my inbox! Though I was exhilarated, the possibility of me making it to the show was slim. The presentation was on a weekday which means I had to take a day off from work, travel to NYC just to attend one show and travel back home the same day so I can go back to work the next day.

I decided not to go considering the travel, but when you can’t stop thinking about something, it’s probably worth going after, isn’t? It took me 12 hours to make a decision and an hour to book my ticket, plan my outfit, and pack everything. Sometimes the hardest part of the decision is just making it.

Here I was in NYC, re-living my first NYFW moment all over again but this time I was alone and more confident. After a 3hr Amtrak from Baltimore to NYC, I quickly changed in the metro station bathroom, took a cab and headed to The Standard hotel where the All Things Mochi presentation was scheduled.

September 4th, 2019, All Things Mochi presented their Summer/spring 2020 presentation inspired by the Philippines culture. Like every other Ayah Tabari’s collection, each piece in this collection was handcrafted using traditional embroidery techniques.

All Things Mochi brings an array of cultures and their artisan crafts to the western world with their contemporary designs.

With a distinct vision, All Things Mochi brought the Filipino Payihas festival (a traditional celebration of an abundant harvest) to the forefront in their presentation set and designs for SS20.

The entire collection was exotic, lively and beautiful. The amalgamation of light airy colors, floral embroidery, and vibrant hues were extraordinary and perfect for Spring/Summer.

Here is your brown girl congratulating the talented All Things Mochi designer Ayah Tabari for an incredible presentation. It was so different and culturally rich. Apart from the beautiful collection, the entire presentation embodied the celebration of the harvest with straw and raffia decor, handcrafted props (hats, fans, belt, and wall hangings), traditional Filipino dancers, drummers, and drinks. You can check out the entire presentation on my Instagram.

I celebrated the All Things Mochi collection with colors in my own style. After learning so much about the brand while I was there, I wished I wore something handcrafted and ethnic since the show was all about celebrating culture and artisans.  You can clearly see the tiredness in my face. I basically gave up on my hair. I had practically zero time to curl or straighten it.
