Today, for Navratri 2022 Day 6, I am wearing my grandmother’s vintage grey Gadwal saree.

Navratri 2022 Day 6 Outfit- My Grand Mother's Grey Gadwal Saree, 925 Silver Mango mala necklace

Navratri 2022 Day 6 color is Grey. It represents courage and balance. Goddess Durga’s sixth avatar, Maa Katyayani, is worshipped on the sixth day of Navratri. According to the Vamana Purana, Maa Katyayani was created from the combined energies of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and other gods to assassinate the demon Mahishasura. which is why she is known as Mahishasurmardini.

Little background

Navratri is one of the few festivals that is celebrated all across India with equal devotion. This year, Navratri is celebrated from September 26 to October 5. The ten-day festival worships Goddess Shakti or Goddess Durga. Navratri, literally translating to nine nights, worships the nine avatars of Goddess Durga each day of the festival. The nine avatars are – Maa Shailputri, Maa Brahmcharini, Maa Chandraghanta, Maa Kushmanda, Maa Skandmata, Maa Katyayani, Maa Kaalratri, Maa Mahagauri, and Maa Siddhidatri. Each day is ascribed to a specific color and is associated with one form of Goddess Durga. Those who celebrate Navratri dress up in the specific color of the day and prepare foods in the same color and offer it to the goddess as the prasad. Here is the list of Navratri colors if you are looking to celebrate.

I am wearing my late Nannamma’s (paternal grandmother) Gadwal saree. I lost her in 2020; 6 months later, I lost my grandfather. They were inseparable, the couple who had every meal and snack together. The ones who would make fun of each other and enjoy each other’s company. My grandmother was bold, beautiful, and fearless. Channeling and remembering her today.

You guys know my love for old sarees; this saree is soo vintage; just love the color combo. I paired it with a traditional Mango mala necklace to keep the look classy. The Mango mala is 925 silver jewelry with gold coating from Pankhi Jewelry, they are manufacturers, not resellers, so the pricing is slightly low. Jhumkas are also from the same brand; they are sooo beautiful, but a bit heavy and might hurt to hurt if you wear them for a longer time.
