  • Ocr 22, 2023- Purple
  • Ocr 23- 2023- Peacock Green

Navratri Day 6 is dedicated to Goddess Katyayani, the warrior goddess who embodies courage and strength. Her divine form is depicted with four arms, holding a sword and a lotus, while one hand is in the “abhaya mudra” (gesture of fearlessness) and the other in the “varada mudra” (gesture of granting wishes). To honor her, people often adorn themselves in shades of green.

Narayanpet, a small town in the Mahbubnagar district of Telangana, is where the exquisite and unique Narayan pet cotton and silk handloom sarees and lehengas are weaved.

Narayanpet handloom half sarees and lehengas are known for their comfort and style. They are lightweight and easy to carry, making them perfect for long hours of dance and festivities during Navratri. The borders are very traditional and rich in deep maroon, chocolate red, or red color. They are well-known for the durability of colors used in the yarn. The weavers use natural dyes to produce striking and attractive color combinations.

Keeping the entire ensemble traditional, I paired it with temple or Kempu jewelry to achieve a South Indian Garba look. The jewelry’s beautiful ruby, gold, and pearl go perfectly with the vibrant green and red colors of the Narayanpet half saree or lehenga. By mixing the style of South Indian half saree and jewelry with the lively spirit of Garba night, I wanted to showcase my appreciation for different traditions and my love for festivities.

I was trying two different earrings to see which one goes well with the outfit and forgot about it; that’s why you see me wearing different earrings on each ear. 😀

I wore this to a Garba night yesterday, where I danced my heart out and also received a few compliments. It was beautiful to connect with both the cultural essence of the event and the people around me, and my ensemble played a big part in making the night truly memorable.
