Maternity Saree Look- Green Temple Border Kanchi Silk Saree by Top US Saree Blogger Dreaming Loud

I’m super excited to share my first maternity saree look! Believe it or not, I didn’t share any saree looks during my first pregnancy. But this time around, I’ve been craving to drape a saree almost every day! While it’s not practical with work and a toddler, I try not to miss the opportunity whenever I get the chance.

I originally planned to wear this saree for Varalakshmi Vratham, but after the puja, I was too tired to drape it. Instead, I saved it for the weekend and styled it with the beautiful jewelry I received from 8fold.twinkles.

This is my first 8 Kol or temple border saree, and I was instantly drawn to its stunning color combination. However, I hesitated at first since the saree is plain with no buttis. Yet, in a world of fleeting trends, I knew this 8 Kol Kanchi silk saree would stand the test of time—so I decided to take the plunge and get it.

What is 8 Kol or Ettu Kol Saree?

Ettu Kol or 8 Kol is a type of Kanchi silk saree that is woven on a four-pedal loom, known as the Ettu Kol.

  • Weaving technique: The weaver uses pedals 1 and 3 to insert the saree’s weft and pedals 2 and 4 with zari to create the 8-kol weave.
  • Zari: The saris are richly adorned with silver and gold zari.
  • Design: Features rising borders, traditional temple patterns, and other classic motifs and designs adorn the Kanjivaram drape.
  • Effect– The result is a twill weave that gives the saree a textured effect and a shimmer.

I’m wearing a temple border Ettu Kol saree with silver zari weaving. The twill weave gives the saree a beautiful shine and luster.

When to Wear 8 Kol Saree?

  • Baby Showers: A Kanchi Silk saree will make you stand out while embracing traditional wear at your baby shower or godh bharai.
  • Puja Ceremonies: Whether it’s for a Varalakshmi Vratam or any other traditional puja, the temple border design adds a touch of sacredness to the look.
  • Festivals: Flaunt this saree during festive occasions like Diwali or Navratri to blend tradition with your pregnancy glow.

I styled the saree with two different types of jewelry—traditional temple jewelry and contemporary moissanite pieces.

For the first look, I embraced a traditional style to enhance the saree’s timeless appeal. I paired it with a Nakshi temple necklace adorned with peacock and kalasha motifs. Nakshi jewelry works best with traditional attire such as sarees or lehengas. Its elaborate designs complement heavy fabrics and rich colors, making it ideal for weddings and festive occasions. Its bold design and traditional motifs instantly become the focal point of any outfit.

For the second look, I paired the saree with a trendy Moissanite necklace featuring a Navaratna inlay on an emerald stone. The emerald complemented the green saree beautifully, adding a fresh and vibrant touch.

Mosaniite stones offer a cost-effective alternative to natural gemstones while proving the high visual appeal.  It can be styled with both traditional and modern outfits. It adds a touch of elegance to sarees, lehengas, and indo-western dresses. Its versatility makes it a great choice for both formal events and everyday wear.
