Today, I am sharing my first Crepe Silk Saree; let me tell you, it’s nothing short of a masterpiece. While I typically prefer traditional silk sarees, this one has truly stolen my heart. Throughout my life, I was advised against wearing black on auspicious days, being told it’s a bad omen. However, in reality, it is good to wear black in winter because it absorbs heat and keeps one warm. So here I am, all dressed in black for Sankranthi.

This saree seamlessly blends the luxurious touch of crepe silk with the timeless artistry of Zardosi embroidery, resulting in a saree that exudes a distinctly designer appeal. Let’s delve into the post and explore more about crepe sarees from GiftsGlitz By Suchitra

Crepe Silk

Crepe silk, to me, felt like a gentle caress against my skin. It’s a light to mid-weight fabric that drapes effortlessly, giving the saree a natural flow. Crepe, derived from the French word “crêpe,” is a lightweight fabric known for its distinctive crinkled or wrinkled appearance. What makes crepe silk truly stand out is its soft texture and subtle sheen.

This saree is a beautiful blend of Georgette and Crepe, Georgette gives the beautiful pleats and the Crepe the smooth texture and luxurious shine. Both Georgette and Crepe are woven with a high-twist yarn. The key difference between crepe and georgette is that crepe has a wrinkled, bumpy look, whereas georgette is matte, grainy, and dull. Moreover, georgette fabrics tend to be thicker than crepe fabrics.

What makes this saree a true work of art is the intricate handcrafted Zardosi embroidery in the saree and the blouse. Zardosi, an ancient Persian art form, involves the use of metallic threads, beads, and sequins to create elaborate patterns. The contrast of the black crepe silk with the shimmering Zardosi work adds a regal touch to the saree, making it perfect for special events and celebrations.

The saree came with a stitched Blouse with puffed 3/4th sleeves, it’s stitched to perfection and the Zardosi work on the blouse was very impressive. Alternatively, you can also pair the saree with a sleeveless blouse for a more contemporary and sexy look.

I kept the jewelry simple with a black diamond necklace and flower earrings that complemented the flower buttis all over the saree so well.

I often receive inquiries about this black diamond necklace on Instagram every time I wear it. It’s a dainty piece that complements not only traditional attire but also goes remarkably well with Western wear. I got it at a local jewelry store called Gold City Jewelers here in Maryland. I was looking for black beads that I could wear every day, and effortlessly go with any outfit. That’s when I stumbled upon this necklace and instantly fell in love with it.

I wore it consistently every day for a few months until it unfortunately broke. At that time, my little one, V, was a baby and would frequently hold onto it. I initially thought the breakage might be attributed to this. I had it repaired, but within weeks, it broke again. I don’t know if it’s due to the quality of the chain, or the repair was not done properly, or the necklace is simply not suitable for everyday wear, the bottom line is that while the chain is undeniably beautiful, it may not withstand the rigors of daily use.
