Ever since being back from New York Fashion Week, I am inspired and motivated to try on new trends and experiment with my personal style. I loved the experience of witnessing the months of hard work of designers come to life and enjoyed the sight of impeccable street styles.
‘Amazing’ does not suffice to sum up my experience at NYFW.
I will save it, for now, to share it all in my next post early next week. For this post, I want to talk about the trends that have been seen in common with most of the designer collections and obviously the ones that you can incorporate into your daily outfits.
I used Polyvore sets to highlight all these trends and included similar items that you can shop right now. If you have never heard of Polyvore, it is a fashion website/stylebook that allows users to create shareable collages of clothing and interiors designs. You can store a collection of your fashion content, create outfits using sets, and share your creations with the world.
I use Polyvore as my personal shopping helper. Whenever I am unsure of a certain combination, ex- if I am not sure, whether the top I want to buy will go with the skirt I have, I simply put them together on Polyvore to see if they go well. It also helps to mix and match your outfits. Check this post on how I used Polyvore to style a light blue cardigan in 10 ways.
Polyvore is very simple to use- you don’t even need to have an account to create outfits but if you want to save your creation for future, you need to signup. Here is the simple tutorial on
How to use Polyvore
- Go to Polyvore.com click on create and choose sets option from the drop-down
- Search for the item you are looking for in the search bar (Ex- I searched Fur coats in picture 3)
- Drag and drop the item to the center section where it says “create a collage” (see picture 4)
- Similarly, do that for all the items, once you have your outfit, click publish on the left side and add a Title and Description about the outfit (see picture 5; you can use hashtags in the description for visibility).
- (optional step) Once you publish, you can share your creation on your social media platforms. If you choose the blog option, you will get HTML code that you can embed in your blog post.
What if you can’t find the image you want in the search section. Polyvore has a browser plugin that will help you import images from the web. Here are the steps on how to do that.
- Install the Polyvore browser plugin from HERE
- Go to the website from where you want the image (Ex- I went to mango website in the picture1 to get the image of the fur coat I liked).
- Click on the P by your browser’s search bar (see picture 1)
- Select an item(s)
- Click Like (see picture 2)
- Go to the Polyvore website, you will find the image you liked under My Items tab (see picture3).
Now that you know how to create sets on Polyvore, go create your outfits and be your own stylist. Before you do that, check out all the trends from NYFW for some inspiration to build a trendy wardrobe for yourself.
5 Fashion Trends From 2018 Fall New York Fashion Week That You Can Wear Now
1. Colorful Tights
If you know me you also know that I love wearing colorful tights. They are my go-to wardrobe essentials for work. So, obviously, I was super excited to spot this trend while browsing through the collections by Saks Potts (left and center), Ulla Johnson (right top), and Tom Ford (right bottom). Saks Potts color block tights are an eye candy and uber feminine.
2. Animal Print
Bold Cheetah, tiger, and Zebra prints were spotted everywhere on the runway from Tom Ford (left and top right) to Kate Spade. Tom Ford collection was the interesting mix of sequin and animal print.
3. Colorful Fur Coats
It’s interesting to see fur coats continuing to take limelight throughout the year just that they got more colorful over the months. I am obsessed with them ever since I bought mine from Topshop. Fur coats are seriously super wearable- they are stylish, cute and uber stylish. I highly recommend getting one for yourself. You won’t regret, promise! Trend spotted at Tibi (top right), Micheal Kors (right), and Christian Siriano (left bottom)
4. Tea Length Floral dresses
This trend like fur coats is totally in right now. Florals are big for Spring. So, you know if you get one now, you can wear them all through the year since they will be on trend and also how doesn’t love a floral dress. Trend Spotted- Prabal Gurung (left), Oscar de la Renta (center), also spotted heavily in Tory Burch and Ulla Johnson designs.
5. Colors- Orange and Fuchsia
I spotted orange color profoundly at the Fashion Hong Kong and Dan Liu shows I attended and Fuchsia at Misha Kaur collection. The baby pink color that was on trend last year is getting more bright. Orange is already a trending right now, I wore an orange coat to 2 of the NYFW shows I attended, not knowing I will the see the color on the runway. Trend Spotted at Ulla Johson (top left), Self Portrait (center), Oscar de la Renta (right top and bottom), also spotted in Prabal Gurung and Tory Burch collection.
Apart from these, metallic silver accents and quilted detailing are seen more on the runway.
