Day 1 of Navratri marks the beginning of this joyous festival. It is dedicated to Goddess Shailaputri, a form of the goddess Durga. She was born as the daughter of Himalaya; hence, the name “Shailaputri” translates to “daughter of the mountain,” and she symbolizes the absolute power of the divine. The color for Day 1 is Orange, which represents energy and new beginnings.

Navratri 2023 Day 1-Orange and Pink Dual Shade Swarnachari Saree

For Day 1 of Navratri, the choice of an Orange and Pink Dual Shade Swarnachari Saree is a fitting tribute to the festival’s essence. Swarnachari is a type of Baluchari saree that is made with golden or silver zari weaving. You can read more about this beautiful weave in this post.

The dual shades of orange and pink in this Swarnachari saree are extremely beautiful and were very hard to capture in the pictures; the saree looks 100x more beautiful in real life. The two colors in this saree are like a visual dance, where the lively orange blends harmoniously with the serene pink.  It’s like capturing all the different feelings and experiences of these nine festive nights in one beautiful saree.

The saree’s pallu depicts a story from the Mahabharata, where Karna and Arjuna engaged in a fierce battle. Karna’s chariot wheel got stuck in mud, a consequence of a curse from the goddess Earth. Tragically, Karna couldn’t use his powerful weapon, the Brahmastra, because he had forgotten its incantations due to a curse from his guru, Parashurama.
