Simple Gender Reveal Party Decor turned our special day into a cherished memory. Join me as I share heartfelt moments, reflections, and the beautiful decor that brought so much joy to our celebration!
We celebrated our gender reveal party back in July! It’s taken me a while to feel ready to share this. Not because I wanted to keep it a secret, but because some moments feel too precious to rush into words. This was one of those moments I wanted to savor privately before letting it out into the world. Plus, I was a bit hesitant about sharing too much about the pregnancy. No matter how hard I try, I can’t completely shake off the worry about the evil eye.
I had planned to share this in late September, but life got so busy that I barely had a moment to sit down, reflect, and share what was truly on my heart. October flew by, with each day packed to the brim, pushing this moment further and further away.
So here I am now, at 2:30 AM on November 1st. I woke up and couldn’t fall back asleep, so I thought, why not take this quiet time to finally put into words what that day felt like—and what I’ve felt before and how I’ve been feeling since finding out? There’s a special joy and a sense of peace that comes with knowing a little more about this new soul joining our family.

What Did You Think You Were Having?
When I found out I was pregnant, I was pretty convinced I was having another boy. Honestly, I wouldn’t say I liked the thought and it made me anxious. Before those feelings could spiral, my Pisces (if you know you know) defense mechanism kicked in to shield me from unhappy thoughts. I began to reflect on how deeply I love being a boy mom.
V has been a beautiful blessing in my life. He proved me wrong in every way about the joy and fun of raising a boy. I thoroughly enjoy dressing him up, matching with him—the kind of thing I once imagined doing with a baby girl—and I’ve come to enjoy all the “boy things” I never imagined enjoying. I love our special bond and I can absolutely see myself doing it all over again. As a boy mom, I feel lucky to have the chance to raise a little man who will grow into a fantastic boyfriend, husband, and son-in-law one day. Plus, siblings of the same gender often share a unique connection. I was genuinely excited about welcoming another boy into our family!
As we approached the gender reveal, I began to sense that it might be a girl. Out of the blue, I had the urge to re-watch Gilmore Girls—a show that beautifully captures the bond between a mother and daughter—and ended up binge-watching the entire series. My mom added to the excitement when she commented, “You’re glowing—maybe it’s a girl.” Her words made the possibility feel so real. To my surprise, Rajesh, who had been convinced from the start that it was a boy, started to feel the same way. By the time reveal day arrived, we were both excited for either gender!
More than anything, we both wished for a smooth, stress-free pregnancy this time—unlike my first experience—and a healthy baby. When the baby arrives, it won’t matter who they are; we’ll fall in love with them unconditionally, and our smiles will only grow brighter.
Simple Gender Reveal Decor
During my first pregnancy, we found out on the same day we received the gender reveal envelope that I had a single-vessel umbilical cord, making the pregnancy high-risk. Any excitement for a gender reveal faded away at that moment. Instead, we quietly opened the envelope with both sets of parents on FaceTime, and some close friends came over with cupcakes to share the moment with us.
When the anatomy scan went well this time, we felt such relief and I wanted to savor that feeling. A gender reveal party felt like the perfect way to celebrate the moment.
For the decor, I aimed to keep it simple, minimizing single-use plastics and avoiding balloons altogether. I discovered these beautiful paper flowers that serve as a stunning alternative to a balloon arch, and they turned out gorgeous! What do you think?
The blue and pink curtains truly set the scene for the gender reveal, looking especially beautiful outdoors with the trees as a natural backdrop. The set came with five panels, which I joined together using safety pins.
The banner added texture and complemented the greenery in the backdrop. However, the letters didn’t stand out against the light background, so I added bright color cardstock behind each one to make them pop and appear clear.
We used the backdrop stand we already owned for the curtains, and the pom-pom flowers took about 30 minutes to set up—after that, everything else came together quickly.

THE REVEAL!
The best part of our reveal was that none of us at the party—including us—knew the gender in advance. When I got the NIPT results online, I shared my login with my sister-in-law, who checked the results and ordered the confetti in the correct color. It arrived sealed, so we truly had no idea until the moment we popped it open!

How It Feels to Finally Know the Gender
I was overjoyed, yet I felt a small pang of disappointment that it wasn’t a boy. Honestly, I think I would have felt the same if it had been a boy—I’d reached that stage of wanting both. All our family and friends had unanimously guessed it would be a girl, and I guess, in a way, we all manifested it together!
All our friends showed up dressed in the color they guessed—nearly everyone was in pink! One friend was so certain we were having a girl that she even brought a giant “Baby Girl” balloon to the party!
After the gender reveal, we cut the cake our friends brought and then we had a little fun tossing pink color powder and bubbles—the kids had an absolute blast!
We catered some Mediterranean food and prepared a few homemade dishes as well. Including home-cooked food always brings us joy—it adds a personal touch to our celebrations.
I also set up some toys like Magna-Tiles, coloring materials, and building blocks, along with our backyard sandpit, which is always a favorite among the kids. This kept them happily engaged, allowing the adults some time to relax and catch up with each other.
Gender Reveal Color Coordinated Outfits
Coordinating family outfits that everyone feels good in can be quite a challenge! I wanted to avoid purchasing new clothes as much as possible. Vihaan already has a shirt in pink and blue and pink shorts, and after a thorough search for a simple yet pretty and fitting for the occasion, I found my dress on Amazon.
I’ve been wanting to get something from Bonobos for Rajesh for quite some time, and I finally found the subtle pink and blue shirt that he can also wear to the office. I love Bonobos for men’s clothing—especially their tech shirts, which don’t wrinkle and don’t require any steaming.
