The baby-led weaning Rice Cereal recipe is one of the first foods we introduced to Baby v when he turned 6 months. The rice cereal is called a Uggu in Telugu. They are many different varieties of Uggu but this one is the simplest of all and a wonderful introductory solid food for babies.
Soak the rice and dal for 30 mins (optional only if you have the time). Rinse it well and drain the water
spread it on a clean kitchen towel or plate and air dry it for 30-40 mins. You can also sun dry it for 15 mins.
roast the rice, dal, and ajwain in low flame for 10 mins until the rice and dal are completely dry.
leave the mixture to cool done.
transfer it to a blender (spice grinder or small jar blender) and blend it to a fine powder.
sieve the powder if you see any grains or if the powder is coarse
store it in an airtight container
Rice Porridge Preparation
take 1 tsp of rice cereal and 3/4th cup water in a saucepan and mix it thoroughly making sure they are no lumps.
put the saucepan on medium heat and stir continuously to avoid lumps.
cook it for 12-15 mins until the mixture thickens to a porridge consistency.
once cool, serve it to the baby. You can either spoon-feed them or load the spoon and offer the spoon to the baby if you are following baby-led weaning.
