3 Styling Tips On How to Take your Workwear Pieces from Day to Night

I am not someone who would usually pair a work blouse with jeans for a brunch or date night. I keep my workwear wardrobe separate from non-workwear most times except for some dresses and accessories. I am a queen of mixing casual pieces into workwear pieces but the other way around is repugnant to me. Work clothes come with baggage. I don’t want to think about my job when I’m getting dressed for brunch.

What I like to look like at work (conservative, professional, highly competent and warm) doesn’t always align with what I prefer to look like outside of work (cute, bubbly, casual and fun). It’s actually fun to celebrate these 2 different personalities with fashion but not very amusing for my wallet.

Over time I have changed, that’s mainly because I have found day jobs that I thoroughly enjoy; I no longer dread going to the office and wait for weekends to be happy. Moreover, as I age I fancy looking more polished than just plain casual. I try to get the maximum use of every piece in my wardrobe and my ultimate goal is to have a universal wardrobe that will cater to my ever-changing personal style.

So without boring you guys any more with my professional life, let’s get into the post. I picked 3 workwear pieces that I often wear: black pleated skirt, black lace top, and black jumpsuit and created 3 outfits that are not only attainable and fun but will take you from day-to-night on an off-day looking chic and trendy.

3 Style Tips to Integrate Non-Workwear and Workwear Pieces from Day-to-Night

1.  Give a Color spin

Best way to add color to your outfit is by making either your top or shoes pop. Fluorescent colors have been big since the start of the year and it’s not going anywhere so is the puffed sleeve trend. Whether you’re a minimalist who prefers a subtle statement or a maximalist who likes to push the boundaries eye-catching style, animal print is something everyone appreciates. And if you haven’t yet noticed, animal print is the biggest fall trend right now.

I paired the black pleated work skirt with a fluorescent green ruched top and orange sunglasses and completed my look with subtle print with my target found snake print sandals.

2. Go Monochrome and Add a Seasonal Touch with Accessories

You think monochrome is boring but it’s the easiest way to look put together and you can easily upgrade your monochrome by accessorizing it. Either by adding statement Jewelry or by adding seasonal fashion accessories like scarves in fall and winter, straw /raffia bag or hat in summer and spring.

The easiest way to take workwear pieces to weekends is by investing on tops that you like to wear outside of work. You can always make them work-appropriate by pairing it with a short cardigan or a blazer.

This is a perfect summer-fall transitional outfit. I am celebrating summer with the raffia shoes and bag and welcoming the chilliness of fall with a fedora hat and trench coat. Plus, the outfit is very comfortable to errands and equally chic to wear to a brunch date or a girls day out.

3. Go Glitter or Go Home

Give your black work jumpsuit a nightlife twist by pairing it with a sequin top or jacket. Well, it’s actually pretty simple to take the office garment from desk to drinks—as long as you have a key foundation piece. I find this Target jumpsuit very versatile. The v-neckline makes it easy to flaunt a  statement top underneath, the detachable waist tie is easy to switch with a wide width/printed belt. The wide-leg ankle length is flattering on the curvy body and looks equally chic with boots or sneakers. I will be more outfits  (10+) with this jumpsuit soon.
