Ever since I watched Home Alone (part 2), I wanted to visit NYC during Christmas. Though I fulfilled it 2 years ago, it was only a one-day trip and I was not able to visit all the places I wanted to. So, when we were deciding where to go for our annual girlfriends’ trip, I immediately said NYC. I feel it’s one of the must-visit cities with girlfriends as there is so much to do from shopping to tourist-ing to spa-ing to partying.
Times Square Outfits and Tips on What to Wear in NYC
We stayed at Marriott Marquis hotel on Broadway avenue so we had a great view of Times Square from our room. We woke up to hustle and bustle of the city every morning that never seize to end. On Day 2 of our trip after visiting the WTC, 9/11 memorial and Empire state building, we walked to Times Square before we headed out for dinner, strolling around for a while, taking pictures and enjoying the bright lights. We even saw a proposal: the guy popped the question right in the middle of the red stairs and the girl said YES. It was such a cute moment, everyone around was congratulating them and they literally looked the happiest couple in the world.
I am not a huge city girl, but I love and enjoy places that never sleep. Times Square is one of those place that amuse me even at 3.00 am in the morning. All this pictures were taken post midnight, see how much crowd was there. New York is indeed the city that never sleeps.

Then, we took a taxi to Kati Rolls, an Indian restaurant that is very popular for its rolls and they open all night until 5.00 am in the morning (not surprised anymore). The place was very rustic which got us a little scared as it was past midnight but the staff were amicable and the place was crowded with people. We were so hungry that nothing mattered as soon as we saw food. We ate everything, before I could take pictures! The food was delicious, didn’t disappoint us at all. I highly recommend to anyone who love Indian food.
For the outfits, it wasn’t very cold during our 3-day stay in NYC so a we lived in tights and skirts most of our trip. Our outfits were very seasonal as we enjoyed the season prints and colors.
Tips on what to wear in NYC in November
- Go with Season Prints and colors like Fair Isle, Plaid, Red, White, and Green
- As it is the holiday season, a bit of sequin won’t hurt at all.
- Comfy shoes are a must as you need to stand in long lines- riding boots, fur riding boots and hunter boots are my favorites, they are easy to pack (both riding and hunter boots fold), cute looking and comfortable to walk.
- Accessories play a major role in colder months and also when you are travelling, they take less space and can easily make your outfit stand out. Statements earrings, sequins or pom beanies, printed scarves and holiday socks easily dress up any outfit.

Statue Of Liberty Outfits
On the last day of our trip, we got up real early, checked out our hotel room at Marriott Marquis, and drove to New Jersey for our cruise ride to Statue of Liberty. If you plan to avoid long lines and parking stress, then I suggest taking the ferry from Liberty State Park, New Jersey instead of NYC. There is considerably less crowd and a dedicated parking space to park your car for a minimal fee of $10. As we went on a weekend, parking was absolutely free.
Our first Cruise stop was at Ellis Island, the Immigration Inspection station that was active from 1892 until 1954. The island hosts an Immigration museum, which tells the entire story of American Immigration, including before and after Ellis Island. After we strolled around the Museum, we had our Lunch and took a ferry from Ellis Island to the Statue of Liberty.
Going into the statue was a real pain because once you get inside, you have to wait in lines, first for security check and then for elevators to the top of the pedestal, (to the point where you see people in the above picture) unless you want to cut the line ane climb the 215 steps instead. There is a museum at the top of the pedestal, not sure but somehow we missed to visit. All I could remember is it got colder and breezy once we got there.
One of the other things we missed was to take tickets to the crown of the statue but as we soon as we heard about taking 354 steps to reach to the crown and the fact that there were no elevators, we were relieved about not buying the tickets. Ours legs were already tired from previous days of walking and standing in lines so we had to anyway skip climbing the Crown. Well, there’s always next time, right!?
You can skip both the pedestal and crown all together if you are traveling with kids or elderly parents. You can see and enjoy the beauty of the statue best from the outside anyway, take a leisurely walk around the statue instead.
Coming to outfits- our outfits were very holiday-inspired. A lot of reds and greens! I love this plaid shirt from Jcrew factory (currently marked under $40), it screams holiday to me and the ruffle details are a way to too cute to pass. I paired the shirt with my all-time favorite green skirt from the Jcrew factory as well and finished the look with my Frye boots and Lady coat (borrowed from Lakki). Ale wore a Plaid skirt from the Old Navy and paired it with Camel turtle neck sweater and added our favorite scarf (that all 3 of us exchanged and wore through the trip). While Lakki also stuck with Plaid and wore a gold swing dress from the Old Navy and paired with a Plaid coat from the Old Navy as well and completed the look with Hunter boots.
